The selected resources listed below are the most sought out by new planetGOLD country projects. These products provide important information for new planetGOLD country projects as they join and familiarize themselves with the programme. Please take the four steps outlined below to familiarize yourself with these materials.
Online Form to Set Up Country Webpage on planetGOLD.org
Each project in the planetGOLD programme needs to provide information used in the creation of the project's webpage on planetgold.org.
Complete this form as soon as possible with information that will populate your country project's webpage. Much of the information requested on this form can be extracted from the project document.
Presentation Slide Deck for Inception Meetings
Typically during project inception workshops a short overview of the planetGOLD global project is delivered, either by a member of the global project or by a representative of the project's Implementing Agency. Please coordinate with any representative of the planetGOLD global project on this.
A standard, customizable slide deck for this presentation can be viewed and downloaded below:
The planetGOLD global project organized a series of virtual orientation and training sessions for new planetGOLD project teams in early 2025. Please ensure that all project staff watch the entire recordings of these virtual sessions below in English, French or Spanish.

Learn Which Meetings You Will Join and When Reports are Due
Meetings
Project staff are expected to actively participate in routine planetGOLD coordination meetings as well as less frequent knowledge exchange gatherings and events. Please review the "planetGOLD Gatherings and Expected Attendees" document below for an overview of which planetGOLD project staff are expected to attend which meetings (e.g., project manager meetings, Programme Advisory Group, annual programme meeting, etc.):
Each project submits online quarterly summaries of key activities via "iGOLD"—planetGOLD's online reporting system. These reports are due 1 month after the end of each quarter (January 31, April 30, July 31, and October 31). Using this data, the global project will produce quarterly summaries of key activities and progress across the programme for dissemination to the Project Steering Committee and the Programme Advisory Group (PAG).
Projects also submit an annual progress report in iGOLD for each fiscal year (July to June). These reports are due September 15, and they include both descriptive and quantitative reporting on achievement of project-level and programme-level indicators.

*For an overview of deadlines and quick tips on submitting quarterly and annual reports in iGOLD, the programme's online reporting system, see the "iGOLD Reporting Cheat Sheet" available in English, French, and Spanish.
4. Key Resources
Review These Select Knowledge Products
For new planetGOLD project teams just getting started, the publications below are highly suggested as initial reading material on key topics related to the main components of the planetGOLD programme.
The planetGOLD programme sets out specific criteria to govern the operations of artisanal and small-scale gold mining entities engaged with the programme. The planetGOLD Criteria align with the CRAFT Code, and include three criteria that are specific to the planetGOLD programme: eliminating mercury in the mining process, respecting and protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and minimizing impact on biodiversity. Conformance with this criteria will ensure that artisanal and small-scale miners participating in the planetGOLD programme undertake sufficient efforts to avoid, minimize, mitigate, and where appropriate, offset adverse impacts

The gap in applicable guidance for cyanide management in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector requires urgent attention, especially considering cyanide’s accessibility and effectiveness at gold extraction, and in light of the trend in uptake of cyanidation in the small-scale gold mining sector worldwide. This document addresses this gap by providing written guidance for ASGM stakeholders on managing the risks of cyanidation where national legal and regulatory frameworks permit its use, in the context of the ASGM sector’s transition from mercury use.
This handbook aims to assist countries to develop artisanal and small-scale gold mining formalization strategies as part of their National Action Plans under the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
The document is available online in English, French and Spanish.

The comparative analysis detailed in this document draws learnings from efforts undertaken by nine planetGOLD countries participating in the first phase of the programme, by highlighting similarities and differences between different geographic and regulatory environments. This analysis available in English, French and Spanish draws on detailed case studies of these phase one countries' experiences.
In addition to this report, the nine planetGOLD country case studies plus additional materials analyzing access to finance interventions for the ASGM sector can be found on this resource page.
This guide offers a detailed look at the fundamental aspect of gravity separation, from the installation and operations of plants to the operational management and safe equipment use. Additionally, it addresses the physical properties of gold that make gravity separation effective, describes the technology used in each phase of the recovery circuit and details the ideal conditions of the ore before the mixing stage. The aim of this guide is to empower artisanal and small-scale miners, facilitating access to a cleaner, more profitable, and environmentally responsible form of mining.
Each new project team should participate in a brief introductory virtual meeting with the planetGOLD global project to get acquainted and make project team members aware of the resources, roles and responsibilities in the programme.
If this introductory meeting has not already taken place, please find the relevant contact details below and reach out.
