Cross-programme Analysis of planetGOLD ASGM Financial Access Interventions

In most countries, artisanal and small-scale miners, who are typically part of the informal economy, struggle to access formal financial services.

Recognizing the importance of access to financing for the adoption of mercury-free processing technologies, the planetGOLD programme is exploring options for and promoting access to finance for artisanal and small-scale miners as part of the effort to drive the adoption of mercury-free processing technologies.

The materials listed below provide a summary and cross-programmatic analysis of planetGOLD phase 1 country project experiences on improving access to finance, including analysis of gender-based financial barriers addressed and opportunities created.

Detailed case studies from the projects in Burkina Faso, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Kenya, Mongolia, Peru, and the Philippines document ASGM access to financial mechanisms planned, developed and/or tested in these countries.

Learnings from these efforts are included in the cross-programmatic report, which provides a comparative analysis of these interventions, highlighting similarities and differences between different geographic and regulatory environments.
