Analysis of Financial Access Interventions for the Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining Sector

In most countries, artisanal and small-scale miners, who are typically part of the informal economy, struggle to access formal financial services.

Recognizing the importance of access to financing for the adoption of mercury-free processing technologies, the planetGOLD programme is exploring options for and promoting access to finance for artisanal and small-scale miners as part of the effort to drive the adoption of mercury-free processing technologies.

Cross-Programme Analysis

The report below provides a summary and cross-programmatic analysis of planetGOLD phase one country project experiences on improving access to finance, including analysis of gender-based financial barriers addressed and opportunities created. This comparative analysis highlights similarities and differences between different geographic and regulatory environments.

planetGOLD Project Case Studies

Detailed case studies from the projects in Burkina Faso, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Kenya, Mongolia, Peru, and the Philippines complement the cross-programmatic analysis, documenting ASGM access to finance mechanisms planned, developed and/or tested in these countries.
