This document produced by the planetGOLD project in Peru puts a focus on the artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector in the country in light of the global COVID-19 outbreak, providing an analysis of the effects of the pandemic and proposing some possible measures to facilitate its reactivation and formalization process.
Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) is often associated with environmental degradation, workers’ exploitation, unsafe practices and even conflict. This issue brief summarizes an analysis of the state of play in ASGM communications (including barriers to effective communication) and emerging trends, along with recommendations aimed at communicators and decision-makers.
