An important step in strengthening the collaboration between the planetGOLD Suriname project and the Traditional Authorities of the Matawai tribe was taken today during an introductory and dialogue meeting held at Oxygen Resort in Paramaribo. The meeting, organized in collaboration with the Foundation for Research and Development in Caribbean Communities (FRDCC), brought together representatives of planetGOLD Suriname, the Traditional Authorities of Matawai, partners, and other stakeholders for an open and respectful exchange of information, expectations, and future perspectives.

On 18th May 2026, the planetGOLD Zambia Project established the Community Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (CASGM) Committee in Chisamba District as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen formalisation, grassroots governance and sector coordination within the Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector.

Le projet PlanetGOLD Guinée a organisé à Conakry un atelier de validation du Guide d'aide à la formalisation de l'EMAPE de l'or. Cette rencontre a réuni les ministères sectoriels, les partenaires techniques, la société civile et les représentants des artisans miniers afin de valider un outil stratégique pour promouvoir une exploitation artisanale plus responsable, mieux encadrée et sans mercure.

On 15 April 2026, government officials, large-scale mining executives, and artisanal mining representatives sat down together at a high-level workshop convened by the planetGOLD Zimbabwe project. The goal was to map out a practical path toward formalizing the sector and building genuine collaboration between small miners and established companies.

The planetGOLD Ghana Project is strengthening efforts to promote safer and more sustainable mining practices through health education and community awareness activities in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region. The initiative supports the project's goal of reducing mercury use in Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) while improving the health and environmental wellbeing of mining communities.

Honduras reafirmó su compromiso con la sostenibilidad del sector de la minería artesanal y de pequeña escala (MAPE) durante la Primera Junta Extraordinaria del proyecto planetGOLD, realizada el 26 de marzo, en un contexto de transición de gobierno.

On 1st May 2026, the planetGOLD Zambia Project joined the people of Rufunsa District in commemorating Labour Day, reaffirming its commitment to promoting decent work, safer mining practices and sustainable livelihoods among Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Miners.

As part of efforts to promote responsible artisanal and small-scale gold mining and reduce mercury use, the planetGOLD Ghana Project conducted a health education session at Smart Micky Mines in Akatakyieso, one of its pilot sites. The programme engaged about 30 miners, including mercury users and other mining personnel, to raise awareness of the health, safety, and environmental risks of mercury and to encourage the adoption of safer alternatives.

Cet événement a réuni le Ministère de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable (MEDD), Banque Centrale de Madagascar (BFM), le Ministère des Mines (MIM), ainsi que l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour le Développement Industriel (ONUDI), traduisant la volonté commune en faveur de la mise en œuvre conjointe du projet planetGOLD Madagascar pour un secteur aurifère plus durable, responsable et respectueux de l’environnement à Madagascar.

La jornada permitió a estudiantes universitarios conocer en campo los procesos de recuperación de oro y analizar alternativas tecnológicas más eficientes y sostenibles para la minería artesanal en Paso Yobái.

On 29 April 2026, a meeting was held between the Commission of the planetGOLD Suriname Project and the PMU. During the session, extensive discussions took place on the collaboration between both entities.
