This is an ongoing article on Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) communities and how they may be affected by COVID-19. There will be regular updates of this article that accompany developments of COVID-19 and as new information and thinking about its impacts on ASGM arise.

The Department of Labor's annual Findings on the Worst Forms of Child Labor focuses on the efforts of certain U.S. trade beneficiary countries and territories to eliminate the worst forms of child labor through legislation, enforcement mechanisms, policies and social programs.

This report seeks to assist ASGM programs in accessing finance by better understanding the perspective of investors and the implications of ASGM’s status as a frontier investment sector. It reviews barriers to finance, but, importantly, also discusses how ASGM may become a new investment sector as these barriers are progressively dismantled.

Co-designed with miners, Moyo Gems is an ethical gemstone program being piloted in Tanzania’s gemstone-rich Umba Valley. With the Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA) and Moyo partners ANZA Gems and Nineteen48, Pact is creating a new ethical gemstone supply chain that is helping women miners in Umba to mine legally, to work more safely, to improve their gem and market skills, to raise their incomes, and to be recognized for the arduous work that makes consumers’ jewelry possible.
