Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) is a significant source of employment in Peru. It is estimated that around 300 thousand people are engaged in this work across the country's 25 regions. However, according to the "Employment Report" from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), women's participation in this sector is only 9.62%, highlighting the predominant male presence in the activity.

Learn about the collaborative efforts of planetGOLD Philippines, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) - Mountain Province Chapter, and the Sagada Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) in enhancing occupational first aid and emergency management skills for small-scale miners in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector. The two-day training session covered modules and hands-on workshops addressing first aid, basic life support, emergency care, and specific scenarios related to mining activities. The initiative aims to prioritize the safety of small-scale miners, fostering a more prepared and resilient community capable of responding to emergencies and disasters in mining areas.

Gain insights into how the planetGOLD Philippines project addresses challenges and maximizes opportunities based on study results. To tackle these issues, the project team initiated the ASGM fora series, focusing on the theme "Empowerment through Engagement and Participation: A Forum on Government Information and Services for Small-scale Miners."

It was the first time I attended such an event. It really opened my eyes, to see the entire world come together for a common objective: to make mercury history.

The COP5 is unique in that it coincides with the eighth year since Mongolia ratified the Minamata Convention and the fifth year since the planetGOLD Mongolia Project was started and executed by the AGC.

The Government of Ghana (GoG), in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and United Nations industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) organised an inception workshop and launch of Global Environmental Facility (GEF) funded planetGOLD Ghana project.
