The planetGOLD Philippines conducts a workshop for the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Mines and Geosciences Bureau on gold trading arrangements and engaging financial institutions to discuss the opportunities on the miners’ participation in the creation of a credit surety fund, forward purchase agreement, and developing social enterprises. Established partnerships with small-scale mining associations are expected to enable the project to pilot initiatives and programs in consultation with the concerned government agencies.

The planetGOLD project has introduced several types of alternative technologies appropriate for the scale of artisanal and small-scale mining operations, enabling miners to choose which are most suitable for them. This month, one mining cooperative from Kulon Progo District launched their first mercury-free processing facility, with grant funding from the project. The planetGOLD Indonesia project also reports on exhibiting its results and publications at the recent GEF-8 Asia-Pacific Workshop.

To celebrate the contributions of ASGM Champions across different sectors, “Behind the Gold Rush: A Photo Exhibition featuring People Advocating for the Advancement of ASGM in the Philippines” was launched in Paracale, Camarines Norte on January 25-February 2, 2023 and Sagada, Mt. The MOA represents the commitment of AGC Philippines and the SMBC to work together in ensuring compliance with government policies on environmentally and socially responsible mining operations, supporting the transition of Paracale miners in producing mercury-free gold through better technologies and capacity development activities, in promoting gender-equitable practices, and in sharing stories and lessons to other small-scale mining areas in the country.

El martes 17 de enero, en el Hotel Europa de la ciudad de La Paz se realizó el evento de presentación oficial de los proyectos Plan de Acción Nacional (PAN) y Proyecto planetGOLD Bolivia. In Guyana, 70 per cent of gold mining is done by this sector, which directly engages more than 11000 persons, at all levels, and a significant number indirectly. It is an important livelihood and income source for poor families and many indigenous communities. In 2018 this sector’s contribution to the GDP was 6.1 per cent.
