Levin Sources and the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime produced two case studies identifying financial flows - both licit and illicit - in Mongolian and Filipino artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sectors. This report, focusing on Mongolia, provides a nuanced first-look at how stakeholders can better understand and respond to the role gold supply chains and financial flows play in formalization efforts.
This case study gives an overview of a lease-to-purchase blended finance program developed by The Impact Facility for Sustainable Mining Communities (TIF) to provide equipment and foster sustainable mining practices in the ASGM sector of Western Kenya. This case study is part of a larger body of work documenting financial access interventions for the ASGM sector.
In addition to incorporating elements of the CRAFT Code, the planetGOLD Criteria includes three additional that are specific to the planetGOLD Programme. Mining Entities engaged under the planetGOLD Programme are required to submit this planetGOLD Environmental and Social Risk Verification Form, thereby providing evidence of conformance with the planetGOLD Criteria.
A new report from WWF and Themis traces how high-risk minerals—including gold, cobalt, coltan, and rare earths—move through opaque, multi-jurisdictional supply chains that are hard to monitor and vulnerable to criminal exploitation.
This document was created to support health workers who practice in communities where ASGM occurs. This guide is illustrated and contains key messages that should be conveyed to the community. This guide can be used for group information sessions or for individual sessions.
This slide deck was presented during a June 2024 webinar for planetGOLD national projects on calculating the economic impact of illegal gold mining. It was the sixth in a series of webinars on Jurisdictional Approach (JA) / Landscape Approach (LA).
