Con entusiasmo, compromiso y muchas ganas de aprender, más de 80 mineros y mineras artesanales de Zamora Chinchipe y Loja dieron inicio a su formación en el marco de la Escuela mejORO, una iniciativa del proyecto planetGOLD Ecuador para fortalecer las capacidades del sector hacia una minería responsable, técnica y libre de mercurio.

Une campagne de sensibilisation de masse, pilotée par planetGOLD Guinée, déployée dans les préfectures de Mandiana, Siguiri et Kouroussa, pour alerter sur les effets toxiques du mercure utilisé dans l’orpaillage artisanal. À travers des spots radio, des rencontres communautaires, des outils pédagogiques et l’implication des relais locaux, l’action vise à mobiliser les populations, à prévenir les risques d’intoxication, et à promouvoir des alternatives techniques responsables et durables.

The three friends—Nyamaa, the miner; Byambaa, who processes ore; and Baatar, the gold trader—are all striving to do what's right and earn a living through formal and legal ways. Even though the obstacles and difficulties they face in their own type of business are different, all three are questioning the current ways of formalizing the ASGM sector in Mongolia.

To address the human health and environmental issues caused by the illegal use of mercury in ASGM—and to promote sustainable development opportunities—the planetGOLD Mongolia project has been implemented since 2019 under the planetGOLD programme.

Representatives from planetGOLD Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea and the Global Project attended the 2025 Mining in Motion Summit in Accra, Ghana, a gathering to reimagine artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASM) across Africa

The planetGOLD Zambia project participated in the CAMINEX Mining and Agriculture Exhibition in Kitwe, Copperbelt Province. The event provided a platform for the project team to engage with key stakeholders from the mining sector, gathering valuable insights into the policy and legal challenges facing the Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector.

The planetGOLD Uganda project hosted a delegation from Kenya’s Ministry of Cooperatives, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development at the Kayonza Mine Site in Kassanda District in May 2025. The visit marked an important milestone in promoting cross-border learning and collaboration within the artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector.

The planetGOLD Ghana project recently completed a two-day onsite training for artisanal and small-scale miners in the Prestea Huni-Valley and Wassa Amenfi West Municipalities in Ghana’s Western Region. The training focused on promoting mercury-free gold extraction and responsible mining. It is part of a larger initiative to reduce mercury use in ASGM, improve access to finance, strengthen supply chains, and encourage sustainable mining practices.
