The study involved reviewing the existing ASGM related policy and regulatory framework in light of gender dimensions in the ASGM sector in Kenya

En un programa académico de 48 horas virtuales, divididas en ocho (8) módulos, se invita a todas las personas interesadas en fortalecer sus conocimientos, descubriendo conceptos iniciales sobre el mercurio, sus efectos en la salud y el medio ambiente, comprender el enfoque de género en este campo y proponiendo soluciones para la eliminación de esta sustancia tóxica de los territorios. 

The curriculum has been designed as an introductory level course on basic knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable artisanal and small-scale miners to run more sustainable, responsible, and profitable enterprises with focus on key safety and health concerns.

This guideline was developed as a reference for stakeholders on how gender mainstreaming is carried out in the management of mercury-free ASGM.

Este guia prático sobre “Exploração Mineira Artesanal e de Pequena Escala na Região da Africa Austral” é o resultado de uma sessão de formação que teve lugar em Maputo, Moçambique de 26 a 30 de Setembro de 2022, como parte do Work Package C sobre Exploração Mineira Artesanal e de Pequena Escala com participantes de 16 países da região Austral de África.

This handbook is the result of a training session which took place in Maputo, Mozambique from 26 to 30 September 2022, with participants from 16 countries in Southern African Region. This training aimed at building capacity in the Geological Surveys of the African continent in matters related to the assessment and management of mineral resources, use and sustainable land development, mitigation of natural risks and environmental protection.

This publication was designed as an easy to-use toolkit for identifying the gender dimensions of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).

The Indigenous Negotiations Resource Guide, designed in consultation with Indigenous partners, supports Indigenous peoples and local communities to negotiate effective and equitable benefit sharing agreements with those seeking to develop their lands, waters and resources, such as for extractive and infrastructure projects. 

The guide document is available to download in both English and Spanish.

These guidelines are based on completed FPIC CI case studies and provide a complementary tool to CI’s institutional policies, including the recently updated Indigenous Peoples and CI Policy. They provide introductory and background information on FPIC, as well as actual steps for ensuring FPIC.
