  • Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining: A Curriculum for the Health Sector

    This curriculum was designed to be used globally in training healthcare workers to recognize, diagnose, treat, and prevent mercury toxicity among ASGM miners, their families, and their communities. This publication contains all elements of the curriculum, including recommended agendas, pre- and post-course evaluations, slide sets with narratives on each slide, lesson plans, and tools for classroom activities.

  • Report: Chemical Exposures in Mining

    It is estimated that up to 19 million miners are exposed to mercury alone in ASM operations, giving an indication of the scale of the problem. Occupational exposure to these hazardous chemicals can severely impact body systems and organs, leading to disability, lifelong illness and even death. This report provides an overview of chemicals found in the ASM sector, summaries of different key chemicals present in those settings and policy actions.

    The 2024 Global Forum on Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining was held in Batangas, Philippines, in June 2024. Organized by the planetGOLD Programme, this event aimed to gather a diverse range of stakeholders, including miners, government officials, international agencies, policy and technical experts, and private sector representatives. The primary goals were to inform, educate, and exchange best practices to enhance, professionalize and eliminate mercury in the ASGM sector.

  • Minahang Bayan Artisanal Operations

    This report presents the findings from the geological fieldwork conducted in the Minahang Bayan (“MBP”) of Paracale in April 2022. The objective is to provide an outline of the artisanal exploitable mineral resources in the small-scale gold mining site in MBP, Camarines Norte. This document is designed to serve as the geological basis for the development of practical recommendations and strategies for the mining and processing of the mineral resources in MBP using mercury free technology.
