This curriculum was developed as part of the project Developing Training Materials to Promote the Reduction of Mercury Use in Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining. This curriculum is intended to help teach fundamental business skills to artisanal and small-scale gold miners. These teaching and learning materials are designed to be “open source” meaning that they are made available freely for use by programs, organizations and institutions of all kinds working in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector.

When the planetGOLD programme launched in 2019, the message to miners from leaders in the programme was: let's work together to build a pathway to mercury-free gold. Now, two years later, miners from some of the planetGOLD country projects have messages of their own for the programme and for the world. Hear from them in their own words what they want planetGOLD to deliver and how they want the world to see them.

Focused on protecting the health and lives of ASGM workers, this module addresses the physical and chemical risks associated with small-scale mining, especially those linked to mercury exposure. It provides participants with knowledge and skills in hazard identification, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response protocols. Practical components include basic mine rescue drills and the creation of site-specific safety checklists. The module supports MGB’s commitment to promoting safe, dignified work in the sector.

This report presents the findings from the geological fieldwork conducted in the Tunkhel village area and Mandal soum, Selenge province conducted in May 2022. The objective is to provide an outline of the artisanal exploitable mineral resources for the two small-scale gold mining (“ASGM”) from the planetGOLD Mongolia project in the Selenge Province. This document is designed to serve as the geological basis for the development of practical recommendations and strategies for the efficient mining and processing of the mineral resources using mercury free technology.

This Annual Progress Report features key activities, milestones, and figures from 23 country projects across the programme for the July 2022 – June 2023 reporting period. In addition to narrative summaries of key activities and accomplishments among these projects, this report incorporates data on four key output indicators that are tracked across the programme: tonnes of mercury abated; number of miners supported in their formalization processes; amount of money made available to ASGM through financial mechanisms; and amount of responsible ASGM gold produced.
