As in many ASM communities across the world, women working in Indonesia’s ASGM sector face many gender-specific challenges. These include unfair allocation of property rights and patriarchal social norms that can disadvantage them in pursuing ownership, education, enabling technologies, and secondary employment opportunities (CIRDI 2020). This study explores the factors that hinder the implementation of its legal framework for mining. A combination of qualitative explorative methods was applied, including an innovative tool called “Process Net-Map”, a visual participatory mapping technique. The results help to explain the governance challenges of the ASM sector, enabling identification of policy reform options to address them.

Este estudio desarrolla un marco para calcular los costes económicos asociados a los impactos ambientales y sociales negativos de la extracción de oro artesanal y en pequeña escala en la Amazonia brasileña. Basándose en una revisión bibliográfica sobre las valoraciones del impacto de la deforestación, la degradación de la tierra y la contaminación por mercurio, los autores utilizan múltiples parámetros para desarrollar una fórmula generalizable de transferencia de valor. El estudio propone, además, una mejora del modelo utilizado por Bakker et al. (2021) para estimar los impactos del mercurio en la salud humana.
This report examines four countries whose central banks actively purchase gold from domestic ASGM production, and considers lessons learned in formulating policies towards ASGM. It describes central bank domestic purchase models, the impact they can have on improving practices associated with small-scale gold production, and the benefits of domestic gold buying for reserve management purposes.

This report seeks to assist ASGM programs in accessing finance by better understanding the perspective of investors and the implications of ASGM’s status as a frontier investment sector. It reviews barriers to finance, but, importantly, also discusses how ASGM may become a new investment sector as these barriers are progressively dismantled.
The guideline of Good Mining Practice (GMP) was developed based on the conditions of small-scale primary gold mining in Indonesia which is focusing on the technical level as well as mining safety and environmental management during the primary and post-mining gold mining processes. GMP is a technical guideline for supporting small-scale primary gold mining in Indonesia. The information is also useful for stakeholders in the small-scale primary gold mining sector, small-scale mining operators, local governments and local communities living close to small-scale primary gold mining areas.
“Design and implementation of the gender action plan of the planetGOLD Peru project” gathers the experience developed by the initiative between 2020 and 2024 to recognize the work of women in small-scale and artisanal mining in Peru. The document summarizes the process from the diagnosis findings, the work with national actors, and the roadmaps followed at the local level with women mining organizations in Arequipa, Piura, and Puno regions in Peru.
