This video produced by BanEcuador touches on a new financial credit for artisanal and small-scale miners that it has developed in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Central Bank of Ecuador, and UNDP. 

The event focused on past experiences in providing financial services to the sector, current models that are being piloted in the participating countries and an overview of the existing barriers that hamper the attraction of formal finance and investment.

The research analyzes the barriers and limitations of this sector in the regions with the highest incidence or presence of small-scale mining in order to propose financial products and services ad hoc to the reality of ASM that allows them to be included in the formal financial system.

This report seeks to assist ASGM programs in accessing finance by better understanding the perspective of investors and the implications of ASGM’s status as a frontier investment sector. It reviews barriers to finance, but, importantly, also discusses how ASGM may become a new investment sector as these barriers are progressively dismantled.

This report reviews past experiences with delivering financial and allied services to artisanal and small-scale mining and makes recommendations regarding best practices and potential ways forward in improving access to finance based on this experience.

Ce livret a été élaboré pour permettre à l’artisan minier d’enregistrer, au fil du temps, les éléments de son activité en vue d’en garder une mémoire fidèle et exhaustive. Ce livret facilitera in fine l’inclusion financière de l’artisan minier qui d’ordinaire ne tient pas ses comptes de façon structurée empêchant ainsi que d’éventuels financiers puissent disposer d’une base rationnelle pour les accompagner.

Financial inclusion for sustainable investments is a key element in the GEF-GOLD initiative in Colombia. Small-scale mining and artisanal mining are foremost excluded from Formal Banking. Very little information is available within the country for granting credit criteria.

La inclusión financiera responsable es un factor determinante dentro de la iniciativa GEF-GOLD en Colombia, siendo la pequeña minería y minería artesanal, uno de los sectores más excluídos de la Banca Formal y con un alto desconocimiento por parte del Sector Financiero en general en nuestro país.

This case study covers the application of a downstream buyer support model to support a collective of women panners called “Pamuan Jaya Panners” in the village. Through facilitated partnerships with the local village government and a socially responsible jewelry company based in Bali, Yayasan Tambuhak Sinta has helped develop access to finance model that continues to support 25 women miners in Tewang Pajangan. This case study will provide local context and existing challenges at the village level, in addition to analyzing the development, implementation, and results of the model.
