A potential source of formal finance for the ASGM sector may be Socially Responsible Investors (SRIs). For SRIs to engage in ASGM they need to be aware of the sector and be willing to consider it for future investment. This report summarizes efforts undertaken as part of the planetGOLD global project to increase awareness and understanding of the sector among the SRI community, with a goal of growing the pool of SRIs who may consider working with the ASGM sector in the future to strengthen livelihoods and enable improved environmental, social, and economic outcomes.

This report describes and evaluates initiatives to formalise the artisanal mining sector in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, in order to locate lessons learned.
With proper education and investment, artisanal and small-scale gold mining presents a tremendous opportunity to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Learn how 12 of the 17 SDGs overlap with the development of a more responsible and sustainable ASGM sector, demonstrating the real—and often unrecognized—prospect for the deployment of socially responsible investing and impact investment.
The international workshop "Successful Experiences in Responsible ASGM" was held between January 11 and 15, 2021, more than 30 mining organizations and international public and private institutions in Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Indonesia, Honduras, and Peru shared their successful experiences in adopting clean technologies, as well as implementing best practices in ASGM.
