The objective of the study was to establish the status of the mercury trade and supply, its use in the ASGM sector, and its impacts on health and the environment.
This brochure provides a brief overview on the health and environmental impacts of mercury, cyanide and silica dust in the sector. Chemical risks do not only affect miners, but also their communities. Mercury and cyanide are both highly toxic to human health. However, only mercury persists in the environment and can travel long distances in the environment. Exposure to very fine silica dust is a common hazard in hard rock mining, but one that can easily be prevented
The document presents data and information collected during the 2021 Contextual Study of planetGOLD Philippines Project Sites. It also provides an overview of the Mercury-Free Processing System (MFPS) being implemented in Paracale, Camarines Norte. The content highlights the key features, benefits, and outcomes of the system, emphasizing its role in promoting environmentally-sound and safer gold processing practices in the region.
The catalog is showing many types of mercury-free alternative technologies which can be implemented by ASGM miners. The technologies are categorized by ore types e.g primary ore and alluvial ore.
This study to remove metallic mercury from tailings before cyanidation was conducted with 300 to 500 kg tailings from 15 different mining sites in Colombia using homemade copper plates covered with an electrolytic layer of silver. The article gives a detailed description on how to make these homemade plates and set up a zigzag cascade configuration for better results.
The face of ASGM and conditions in Indonesia can change for the better and healthier by switching miners to using mercury-free technologies and enabling them to sell their gold to the formal market. This video from the planetGOLD project in Indonesia explains why it's critical to Make Mercury History in artisanal and small-scale gold mining to ensure healthy food chains and to protect human health today and for future generations. Closed captions in English are available.
The Sagada Mercury-Free Processing System (MFPS) brochure provides information on the current gold mining and processing practices in Sagada, Mt Province, along with the MFPS process flowsheet developed by the project—and how this new system can improve existing practices.
