The project GEF GOLD+: Advancing Formalization and Mercury-Free Gold in Suriname has officially transitioned from the Full National Implementation (Full NIM) modality to Support to National Implementation (Support to NIM). Under this adjusted implementation structure, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) remains the Implementing Partner, while the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will provide targeted support services under the Support to NIM modality.

In the context of this transition, a meeting was held on 24 February at the Ministry of Natural Resources, during which a presentation was delivered to the Minister of MNR. The revised implementation modality of the GEF GOLD+ project was explained, and the project’s new communication strategy was also presented and discussed.

The adjusted implementation modality will be formally endorsed through the signing of the revised Project Document (PRODOC). In accordance with the existing Letter of Agreement and the Delegation of Authority under the framework of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), UNDP will provide support in areas including reporting obligations and procurement procedures.

This step is intended to further strengthen project implementation and enhance overall effectiveness and transparency in project management.
The GEF GOLD+ project is implemented by the Ministry of Natural Resources in collaboration with UNDP, with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and aims to advance formalization and mercury-free gold production in Suriname.
