How Mercury Is Absorbed into the Human Body

As part of the health campaign “Working Together Toward Healthier Gold Communities,” planetGOLD Suriname, in collaboration with Medische Zending Primary Health Care Suriname (MZPHCS), developed this story-based visual to explain how mercury can enter the human body.

The visual illustrates the main pathways of mercury exposure, including inhalation, ingestion, and skin contact. Through simple illustrations and clear messages, it helps gold mining communities understand how exposure can occur and promotes greater awareness of the importance of reducing contact with mercury.
