27 items found for alternativas al uso del mercurio
Yvette Sierra Praeli Spanish
En el 2015, Bolivia importó 152 toneladas de mercurio, 12 veces más de lo adquirido el año anterior, un incremento que se dio cuando el Perú impuso restricciones al comercio y uso de este metal pesado directamente ligado a la extracción de oro.

These guidelines are designed for project managers, project implementers, practitioners, or others working on development or environmental management projects that could impact ASM projects or communities that engage in ASM. This document addresses: (1) impact of development projects on ASM; (2) impacts of ASM on the environment, health, and socio-political systems; (3) best practices on mitigation measures for minimizing impacts of ASM; (4) impact of climate change on ASM; and (5) impact of ASM on climate change.

This document aims to assist countries to develop artisanal and small-scale gold mining formalization strategies as part of their National Action Plans under the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
While the ASGM sector is present across Peru, the department of Madre de Dios is the epicenter of illicit alluvial gold extraction and the accompanying deforestation. This case study examines the complex drivers behind ASGM sector expansion, the devastating impacts on biodiversity in the region, and the strategies implemented to address the impacts of ASGM in Madre de Dios by the Government of Peru.

This article discusses implications of domestic cinnabar mining for controlling mercury in Indonesia's ASGM sector, highlighting obstacles to implementing the Minamata Convention, a treaty that aims to restrict mercury use. We link discussion of mercury mining to other socioeconomic processes, labour relations and power dynamics shaping mercury use in gold mining and hindering collectivised mercury-free technology uptake.
PACT & University of Delaware English
Pact and the University of Delaware’s Mapping Artisanal and Small-scale Mining to the Sustainable Development Goals (ASM-SDG Policy Assessment) is the first report assessing all positive and negative relationships between artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) and the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
International Review of Environmental Rehabilitation Approaches for Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining: A Review of Best Practices for Frugal Rehabilitation of ASM in Mongolia
Estelle Levin Ltd. English
Estelle Levin Ltd. prepared this report by drawing on best practices of rehabilitation approaches for ASM, using international case studies that illustrate real-world rehabilitation methods that can be applied to ASM in Mongolia.
The planetGOLD programme sets out specific criteria to govern the operations of artisanal and small-scale gold mining entities engaged with the programme. The planetGOLD Criteria align with the CRAFT Code, and include three criteria that are specific to the planetGOLD programme: eliminating mercury in the mining process, respecting and protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and minimizing impact on biodiversity. Conformance with this criteria will ensure that artisanal and small-scale miners participating in the planetGOLD programme undertake sufficient efforts to avoid, minimize, mitigate, and where appropriate, offset adverse impacts to people and the environment.
Artisanal Gold Communities as Prime COVID-19 Intervention Targets: Supply Chain Reform, Health In Gold Out
Shawn Blore, Marieke Kroll, Kevin Telmer English
In this paper, the AGC announces its three signal interventions for dealing with the crisis in ASGM communities brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic: (i) Supply Chain Reform Project – a project to restart and reform artisanal gold supply chains; (ii) Health In Gold Out – a project to deliver health assistance via this gold stakeholder network; and (iii) Artisanal Gold Prices Database – a project to monitor these interventions via a worldwide database of artisanal gold prices.
Artisanal and Small-scale Mining in and Around Protected Areas and Critical Ecosystems Project: Methodological toolkit for baseline assessments and response strategies to artisanal and small-scale mining in protected areas and critical ecosystem
Hinton, J. and Hollestelle, R. English
The aim of ASM-PACE is to address the environmental impacts of artisanal and small scale mining (ASM) whilst building on its economic, social, and empowerment potential in some of the world’s most important ecosystems. The Programme uses a scientific foundation of knowledge, participatory methods and rights-based approaches to work with miners and their communities – rather than in opposition – to design sustainable, win-win solutions that will last.
